Here are some of the myths and legends I have heard and or read....
Below are the ones I have heard from the old timers around my area.
Some of the old timers here have told me,if one is to whistle at the Northern lights it would cause them to change their shape and dance to the tune of the whistle....It is also said if kids whistle at the Northern lights,the lights will come down and sweep the kids up..Don't worry kids this can not happen...
The best one I have heard is the Northern lights are caused by the sun beaming off the ice cap..I have discussed this it another page so won't go into details here....
Some of the myths and legends I have read....
The Native Americans claim that if they whistled at the lights they could round up sprits for guidance.
Also they thought the Northern lights where the work of God to add light to the long winter nights in the North.
Way back in time people thought the Northern lights would could come down and beheaded anyone who was outside,Also people thought the Northern lights were a force which killed people who mocked it.
I'm sure there is many more myths and legends about the Northern lights...One thing that is for sure none of these are true..However one thing is true if the Northern lights were to ever make contact with Earth we would end up dead..The show I saw about that was on, I think it was the TLC or discovery channel..So here again I'm drawn to something so deadly but yet so peaceful to watch...I wish that everyone had a chance to the Northern/Southern lights just once in their life time...Then you would know what I'm saying in the above statement.
